Measurement Guide: Mini Rhino Shelf Kit
Garage Storage Shelving - Measurement Guide
Our Measurement Guide has complete measuring instructions to determine the size you will need for a RhinoMini Model Shelf Kit
The Rhino Shelf® RhinoMini Model is designed to be used with the full-sized Rhino Shelf models, or by itself in a stand-alone application. It is similar to the Open-Open Model, just smaller. It uses three 4-ft boards per shelf section instead of five, it is 20" deep rather than 33 1/2", and the distance from the top of the shelf to the top of the diagonal brace is 12" instead of 24". Each section is still 48"(+/-) wide to match up with the wall stud spacing. The 2x4s are not provided as part of the kit - you obtain these boards locally. To order the RhinoMini Shelf, follow these steps to determine the length of the kit that you need.
First, choose a height for your shelves. If you're using the RhinoMini in conjunction with our full-size shelves, choose a height based on the full-sized shelf's height. If using the shelves alone, pick any suitable height you wish. Allow a minimum of 12" above the shelf to the ceiling or the shelf above for the diagonal supports (see inset below).
Then, measure the available open wall space at that height. If your wall is completely unobstructed, measure from the first available stud that you intend to use.
Choose the next smaller four-foot multiple length (4', 8', 12', 16', 20', 24', 28', 32' etc.) that fits within your open space. For example, if your open wall space measures 19 feet, order a 16-foot Kit. (Naturally, a 4', 8', or 12' Kit would also fit.) We will configure your DIY RhinoMini Shelf kit to cover any length you specify as long as it is evenly divisible by 4.
Kits include all metal shelf components - pre-assembled, wrapped and labeled - along with all screws, bolts, nuts and fasteners. You provide the 2x4 lumber, which is not included.
Note: There is no need to locate specific wall studs at this time. When you receive your shelf kit, you will attach the brackets to the appropriate studs closest to 48 inches apart (every third stud if they are about 16” apart, every second stud if 24” on-center). This will result in each self section being approximately 48”; some larger some smaller. You will then measure each shelf section and cut your 2x4’s to fit the actual spacing for each section. For walls that are not wooden stud construction, see FAQs.
